DIY Sugaring Hair Removal: A New Hair Removal Technique

Sugaring - A New Hair Removal Technique

While enjoying the sunshine, the beach breeze and the cool water in Summer, how do you deal with those hairs on legs and underarms? We’ve tried depilatories, we’ve cringed through waxing, and we’ve spent a lot of money on shaving, and we’re looking for ways to get rid of it in a cheap, fast, and long-lasting way! And now we are excited to hear about a new hair removal trend from Pure Wow – SUGARING.

Sugaring hair removal is very similar to waxing as it removes hair from the root when done properly. But along with being all natural it usually isn’t as painful because it doesn’t stick as much to the skin, and is used at room temperature. It involves smearing a paste of sugar, water, salt and lemon juice onto your skin and then ripping the paste on the skin to remove the hair! Unlike waxing, the paste is lukewarm rather than super-hot, and won’t burn your skin. It also reportedly hurts much less than waxing, although it can sting a little, and any left-behind excess can be simply wiped off with water. Best of all, it can potentially make some of your hair follicles fall dormant, making unwanted hair thinner over time and requiring less frequent treatments. (At the start, you’ll need to re-sugar about every six weeks.)

Here is a recipe and video you can follow to try at home:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider or lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
