Growing own vegetables can be fun and rewarding, we have so many projects to do for our garden. And I personally love all the creative and new ideas to experiment on my own yard. As you can see that the bacyard size is getting smaller here in CA, and growing vegetables in open land is getting really hard. We have way to grow potatoes without soil. And Grow Strawberries In Rain Gutter Planters off land. Homemade food might be a possible solutions to beat the ever rising food prices.
Today we are going to share aother sustainable farming systems: Aquaponics system. “Aquaponics, is a food production system that combines conventional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as snails, fish, crayfish or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) in a symbiotic environment. In normal aquaculture, excretions from the animals being raised can accumulate in the water, increasing toxicity. In an aquaponic system, water from an aquaculture system is fed to a hydroponic system where the by-products are broken down by nitrogen-fixing bacteria into nitrates and nitrites, which are utilized by the plants as nutrients. The water is then recirculated back to the aquaculture system.”
If you have large open space, you can try to build your aquaponics garden yourself with lower cost, using plastic trays or PVC pipes for growing plants over water.
